I stole the following story from James Suchy who stole it from Jason Hammel. It is provocative but definitely has a point.
"I went to this black belt years ago and told him that I wanted to be a black belt world champion. Was it possible, I asked? He said "yes it is possible just not possible for you." I was disheartened to hear that so I asked him why he thought that. His response was "you just don't train enough." I then proceeded to tell him over and over again how I just couldn't train for this reason or that, i.e. my job, my girlfriend etc. He then asked me: "jason if it is not your fault then congratulations you aren't in fact lazy.....but you still will never be a world champion."
Point of the story: If you can change things in your life in order to train more then you just dont want it bad enough. If you cannot change things to be able to train more then you are not lazy you are just unfortunate. Which one are you, lazy or unfortunate?
Stop making excuses and train to become a world champ... or stop talking about how you want to be one
Students that advance faster than others should not discourage you but rather motivate you. The students who advance faster do not learn special techniques and are not privlidged to hidden Gracie secrets. These students find ways to attend class more frequently.
This does not mean that you will not advance training 2-3 times a week, it just means it may take longer.
