GBNH In-House Tournaments
Permalink

Competition is very important to growth in BJJ.  Time constraints, travel and cost can be huge deterrents in addition to the anxiety of putting ones self on the line.

To address each of these issues, GBNH is going to have in-house tournaments twice a month.

We have many students at the academy and there is no question we could put on great in-house tournaments.

Structure (Gi and No-Gi)

No weight classes:  We will make every effort to match competitors as evenly as possible.

White belts will compete first.  The top 2, 3 or 4 finishers in the white belt division will advance to the blue belt bracket.

The top 2, 3 or 4 finishers in the blue belt division will move on to the advanced bracket.

We will keep track of places and competitors will be seeded accordingly.

First tournament:  August 21st!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are no excuses, get on the mat! This will be a lot of fun for everyone. There is never shame in competing and losing.

This will be a great opportunity to gauge exactly where you are and where you want to be.

Each tournament will be Gi and No-Gi

We don't have to worry about weigh-ins but rather only a quick rules meeting.

Tournament shold start and end early

If you're on the fence about this, get off and just do it!

This will be no different than rolling in any other class. It will just be a little more structured but you will be going against the same guys or girls.

Because we are all a team, nobody will remember who won or lost each match.

Competing helps you "get it"

Good luck to everyone tomorrow, we will have a lot of fun!

Great class. Actually learned a lot. Especially that cardio and muscle endurance are important in competition class.

Thanks to my team mates.

I thought the in-house was a huge success!

As I said before, get in and take advantage of this opportunity.

There was good competition but it was very controlled. Guys got tired but nobody tried to kill them.

Thanks to everyone for attending!

This class was a great experience and i think we all found holes in our games to fix. It was low pressure, fun, and exhausting with just the right level of intensity

Totally agree. Had a great time and we all got to see what each other has learned.
Maybe we could alternate gi/no-gi every other month.

Loved the format.  Realized how many holes I have in my game and how rusty you can get with taking too much time off during the summer.
