Three guys over the last week have complained about hurt ribs.  Minor rib injuries are common in BJJ but there are things you can do to reduce them.

If someone is attacking you should try to find an escape, reversal or counter attack rather than just fighting the other direction.  Training is an opportunity to learn what works and what doesn't.  Getting tapped or losing position are invaluable learning opportunities.  Try to just go with whatever is happening and find a way.  You will not win that particular roll following this advice but each time things will become easier and you will start seeing things for the first time.

Another great way of avoiding injuries is by finding balance while training.  If you go very slow and then try and explode out of a submission or position you are more likely to be injured, actually both guys are more likely to be injured.

Work at a steady pace.  This will allow both guys to develop timing and balance.  Remember, the better your training partners become-the better your training will be.
